Rotorua , blue lake and cheif of the maori

woke up and got on the road. we drove 3 hours to rotorua. we arrived early and decided to get lunch and head out to our campsite. rotorua is very touristy. we did a two hour hike around blue lake, that was cold and crisp and beautiful.

we were picked up by our maori tour around 5 pm. driven to their head quarters where laurie practiced dancing with these balls on a string. i read up on my maori history. we got on a bus, where laurie raised her hand for me to be chief. i led the bus in some canoeing chanting.

when we arrived i was seperated from the group and had to stand in front on the meeting house. warriors came out and did a war dance in front of me, threating to hit me with sticks and weapons. i was not to laugh or smile. all the time laurie was giggling over behind me. at the end they put a stick on the ground and i go pick it up and then we lead the group into the village. in the village you learn about maori culture. its freezing out and these poor actors are in loin cloths and little tops. we then go inside for a dance and song. we then go to dinner.
laurie loved the food. i was left asking for more flavor. they offered lamb , chicken and mussles. laurie was in food heaven. bland was my call of the food. i much prefer the hawaiians wayof cooking . we then went home where i led the bus in a singing of the oregaon alma mater. laurie sang marymounts alma mater.

we got home and froze are butts off again.
